Latest Email Phishing Scam in the Wake of Brexit | Storm Internet

It’s been a strange and uncertain time since the EU Referendum results were announced. Are we leaving the EU? Aren’t we leaving the EU? When and how will it happen? Political parties are in a mess with the main Leave campaigners abandoning ship and party members losing faith in their leaders.  So naturally people are concerned.

But there are always those who take advantage of uncertainty and are targeting those in fear of the Brexit fallout.  The latest reports come of phishing attacks in the form of emails purporting to be about the fallout.  Emails with the title ‘Brexit Causes Historic Market Drop’ have been landing in computer users inboxes at a very fast rate since last week. When a user opens the email, it downloads software onto their devices that can collect personal information, spy on browser history and gain access to financial data saved on those devices.

It has been suggested that the scammers could be targeting those who are posting their Brexit fears on social media, so be especially aware if you are posting publicly.

If you do receive an email from an unknown source just delete it.
